  • Golf Drivers

You step up to the tee and more than likely you will select your driver, sometimes referred to as a 1-wood, out of your golf bag or your caddy without even asking will hand it to you. Why is the driver the first golf club used?

The answer is quite simple; the driver is the club that is used for long shots. If you wish to get as far as you possibly can with your first hit off the tee, then this club will do the trick. The importance of the driver is the distance that it drives the golf ball down the fairway. It will drive your ball long and straight if you hit your ball correctly. If not you may find yourself out of bounds and in a heap of trouble.

Many professional golfers swear by the driver and state that it is the king when it comes to golfing, however, there are some on the other side of the coin, that do not believe the driver is as important for more accurate shots. However, they all do agree that for distance shots the driver is your best bet.

With the first shot off the tee, you are only thinking about distance and safety, unless you are on a small par 3. With your tee shot on long holes, you would love to see your ball have a shallow flight and a long roll, which is what the driver can do for you. Hitting the ball off the tee as long as possible and onto the fairway will be a beautiful site even if you do make par and will give you something to be excited about at the end of the day.

Drivers have changed quite a bit over the years from being created with wood to today being made from all kinds of metals that are sure to aid the golfer with the best distance, lofts, and even weight control. As examples of the difference in drivers today, look at three of the most popular drivers on the market the Taylor Made R5 Dual Driver, Nike Ignite Driver, and the Callaway ERC Fusion Driver.

The Taylor Made R5 Dual Driver is created with a rolled Titanium clubface; cast Titanium clubhead with a heel bulge and CG close to the heel of the club allowing you to square the clubface on impact to reduce slicing.

The Nike Ignite Driver is created with a forged NexTi clubface, cast Titanium clubhead with an L-shaped face that will improve COR.

The Callaway ERC Fusion Driver is created with forged Titanium clubface, forged Titanium carbon composite clubhead that delivers assistance for slicers and hookers to constantly hit the ball straight.

Today, distance is not the only reason to use a driver. Consistency in long straight drives, the ability for farther lofts and of course, the beauty of your golf ball soaring down a long green fairway and rolling into the perfect position is what makes the driver have a major role in your game of golf.
